ValueWiki Policy

Key Policies

Vandalism and Abuse

ValueWiki is collaborative tool for sharing investor research. Material will be removed that is considered inappropriate, violates copyright laws, or does not suit ValueWiki's Mission.

ValueWiki has a zero tolerance policy for vandalism. Users who are clearly making abusive edits will be banned immediately. For the time being, anonymous IPs may edit the wiki. However, we may change this policy at any time.

Redundant Articles

Many securities are listed on more than one exchange, or have more than one share class. In these cases, there will always be a primary article and secondary articles. The relationship between these articles can be denoted through a line of disambiguation at the top of each article.

  • Example: RIM:CA is the secondary article to RIMM. Therefore, the RIM:CA page has the following summary message:
Disambiguation: Research in Motion is a Canadian company that is also listed at the NASDAQ exchange under the ticker symbol RIMM. For the main article please visit RIMM.

All information common to both articles should be contained on the primary article. The secondary article should only contain links back to the primary article, or any information specific to the secondary article. This avoids the problem of creating and maintaining redundant pages.

ValueWiki Guidelines

To avoid redundancy ValueWiki defers to Wikipedia Guidelines. ValueWiki-specific guideline amendments and tweaks should be included below.

ValueWiki-Specific Guidelines

Starting New Articles
  • ValueWiki automatically includes any new security added to a Unites States exchange. Therefore, it should be unnecessary to start a new article on an existing security. Rather, edit and improve the existing article.
  • To start an article on anything besides a security, avoid redundancy by making sure the topic isn't already well covered by another site such as Wikipedia.
  • Everything else is fair game, but do adhere to formatting precedents by check out the Manual of Style.
