Navigation Problem with Firefox
I cannot go to the article tab from message board tab for each securities using Firefox v2.0. The links seem dead. This problem doesn't occur with IE.
- Thanks for catching that. It's on our ToDo list and we hope to get to it soon. Thanks for the feedback! Jonathan Stokes 13:28, 8 December 2006 (PST)
- This has been fixed --Zach 15:13, 9 December 2006 (PST)
Another Firefox Anomaly
- Sometimes edit is not recorded when "Save Page" is clicked. I experience this most often when editing from the top edit tab instead of the section edit button/hyperlink. I don't know if this is specific to Firefox or encountered in IE/Safari also.
- Hm. I think I've experienced that too. We'll take a look at that. Jonathan Stokes 18:42, 8 December 2006 (PST)
- UPDATE: We've discussed this issue, but have been unable to replicate this bug. I think I have noticed this issue in the past, but not for several months. When it has happened, I simply hit "back" on my browser, and then click "Save Page" one more time. Let us know if this bug pops up again. Jonathan Stokes 16:37, 13 January 2007 (PST)

WYSIWYG Editor
Just thinking out loud. I don't know if there's any such thing for mediawiki based wiki like ValueWiki. Do you think a WYSIWYG editor would make the site less intimidating for the less tech nerdy potential editor (who might be really financially savvy)? K Hartandi 15:13, 7 February 2007 (PST)
- This would be ideal. We've explored the idea of making the help buttons bigger in the edit windows. People are getting used to clicking "bold", "italic", or making links in their email programs. If we can make each wiki edit window look more like this format, it might become less intimidating. Any ideas are welcome. Jonathan Stokes 19:00, 7 February 2007 (PST)
Spell check
How about adding spell/grammar checker too? well, I just added Google toolbar which come with a spell checker, and it helps tremendously. But It would probably be nice to have a spell checker build into Valuewiki editor too. --K Hartandi 11:44, 16 February 2007 (PST)
- This would be great. I will add it to the list! Jonathan Stokes 21:55, 16 February 2007 (PST)
Message Boards
It's not really an issue yet now, but how about separating the message boards into two? One for the securities itself (rumors, opinion, subjective analysis, etc.) and the other for the article (Suggestion for improvement, discussion about how to reorganize the article, etc.), more like wikipedia's discussion page. This might help organize the articles once it's ValueWiki gets bigger and busier. --K Hartandi 11:44, 16 February 2007 (PST)
- You could be right. We'll see how things evolve and keep this discussion going. Jonathan Stokes 21:57, 16 February 2007 (PST)
By the way, on a related note, I personally don't like the format of VW's message board. It's OK right now, but I can imagine it will become very cluttered one day. Even for some boards I already have to scroll down to view the newest post. In the future, have you thought about making it more interactive? Maybe thread like, with rating and flagging feature. Comment by K Hartandi added to this board by Jonathan Stokes 23:26, 2 March 2007 (PST)
- The lack of threading in the wiki software is a bit of a killer, so it should complement the boards, rather than look to steal the main contributors and their traffic. Comment by Wikister added to this board by Jonathan Stokes 23:26, 2 March 2007 (PST)
- As long as people create "==Headings==" for each topic, there should be a table of contents on each message board. That should help with scrolling down.
- There is a MediaWiki extension that allows threaded message boards on the Wiki. Every thread becomes a subpage. Zach and I looked into it a few months ago and decided it would make things even more complicated for new users. So we've avoided it for now unless there's a strong user outcry!
- As far as clutter, I'm assuming we'll use an archive policy like Wikipedia. When a talk page gets really long, we can save it and move it onto a subpage (like Talk:Example/History). This will become clearer once we have long talk pages. In the meantime, if a page looks messy, feel free to format it.
- Oh, lastly, if anyone has more specific ideas of how VW message boards should look, post it here because there's a chance we can make these changes. Jonathan Stokes 23:26, 2 March 2007 (PST)
Server Errors
If you are getting server errors from ValueWiki, just click "refresh" on your browser window once or twice. These problems may persist until we raise money to purchase more servers. If you believe you have resources to help with this, feel free to contact me on my talk page. Jonathan Stokes 14:03, 19 February 2007 (PST)

Blue Bar on Macintoshes
If you are running ValueWiki on a Mac, you may see a mysterious blue scroll bar on talk pages. We are working on this! Jonathan Stokes 14:03, 19 February 2007 (PST)

BMY
Can't find bristol Myers Squibb by typing BMY on search. it shows up when searching Bristol Myers. And oh the header is mispelled, tried fixing it but it persisted. It's Bristol Myers Squibb, not Sqibb. --khartand 15:59, 6 March 2007 (PST)
- Very bizarre! I'll look into it. Jonathan Stokes 21:25, 6 March 2007 (PST)
Random Log-outs
Recenly it seems that i got logged out from the site for no reason, this can be annoying, especially when editing. As always, I am using FireFox. --khartand 10:39, 22 May 2007 (PDT)
- Khartand, yes, this has been driving me crazy. I will bring it to Zach's attention. Jonathan Stokes 20:19, 22 May 2007 (PDT)
