By the way, you were right!
Wikister, just read the Alcoa buyout rumors on Yahoo Finance today. I blogged about your scoop, here. Jonathan Stokes 10:07, 13 February 2007 (PST)
User Page vs Talk Page
Hi Wikister,
I love that you're proactive in engaging new members. Friendly note: probably best to put comments on their User talk page, rather than their main bio page. By the way, nice work on Viacom. Jonathan Stokes 11:57, 19 February 2007 (PST)
Viacom
Wikister,
So ValueWiki already has a VIACOM INC CL A (VIA) page that you did some editing on...and you started the VIACOM INC CL B (VIA) page and did some massive editing. And it looks like Class B is the primary stock here... Question: Should we simply redirect VIACOM INC CL A (VIA) to VIACOM INC CL B (VIA), and do the same for the Talk Pages? Just want to make sure we don't have 2 redundant Viacom pages, and 2 redundant message board pages! Thanks for your input. I defer to you as the Viacom expert! CBS
Glad to help. What do you need help with? Jonathan Stokes 11:22, 21 February 2007 (PST)
- I tried to create some redirects for CBS, CBS Corp, CBS Corporation, but it wasn't working.--Wikister 12:33, 21 February 2007 (PST)
- Hmmm....They're working fine for me! Let me know if you have any trouble. Jonathan Stokes 12:49, 21 February 2007 (PST)
- Just found out that a redirect to a redirect doesn't automatically works...--Wikister 13:47, 21 February 2007 (PST)

Links you placed in my userpage
Thanks for the links. They're pretty interesting. Well to begin with, someone told me that investing in biotech is like sitting in a blackjack table with the FDA sitting as the dealer. About ZGEN, it is a good company. Based on the data, I will be surprised if the FDA rejects RhThrombin. However, the drug is not going to be a blockbuster. The bovine(cow) based thrombin market is only about $200 million/annum, while ZGEN's human based thrombin is (relatively) safer, it has to steal market share from that small pie. THat's probably why the market are not responding too much to positive news from RhThrombin. I think the stock will be more sensitive to data from Ataticept, its earlier stage product, because of its blockbuster potential. --K Hartandi 17:13, 21 February 2007 (PST)
NWS Fixed
Wikister, no problem. It was one open ref tag. It made the header think it was a reference, and placed the header at the bottom of the page! That's the think with programming, you make one tiny, tiny error, and everything gets out of whack! It's happened to me a million times. Jonathan Stokes 18:41, 21 February 2007 (PST)
Thanks for the EMC Links
Wikister, really great stuff you placed in my message board. Looked through it quickly but connection is slow today. I will try to have at it if I can find the time. --Twostardav 13:37, 22 February 2007 (PST)
Thanks for the Links
I am not really familiar with either companies. Probably won't waste my time doing due diligence on them either. Glanced at them. NPSP looks like a dud, with dry pipeline, but with decent cash position, note that its market cap is not that much more than its cash position. I fI were Soros I'd rather have the cash back and invest somewhere else. AUXL looks a bit more interesting, but it seems that it has realized most of the short term upside potential, maybe it's just profit taking. Will probably look at AUXL when I have more time. --khartand 18:01, 22 February 2007 (PST)
- Thank you for the feedback, Khartand. I did a little bit of housekeeping at PT Telkom. I might suggest a different placement of the chart at a later time to compact the article a little bit. Let me know if you dislike the result and I'll revert or suggest something else.--Wikister 19:51, 22 February 2007 (PST)
- Thanks a lot for cleaning up TLK. It certainly looks better and easier to read. About the revenue mix, at first I was thinking about putting a table from their financial, as it would have the exact numbers, but I was to lazy. I think the graph nicely describes the story: flattening/tapering of fixed line revenue and growing cell and internet related revenue. I am probably going to start an article on Telkom's "cousin", PT Indosat IIT whose sponsored ADR is also NYSE listed. I am doing a little due diligence on them as these stocks were weakening a bit because of the big flood in Jakarta area. I am trying to decide wonder if they are good deals. --khartand 00:52, 23 February 2007 (PST)
RIMM Headings
It's your call on the headings. I just figured all the blue [edit] links were getting clunky. Up to you. Jonathan Stokes 20:52, 23 February 2007 (PST)
Example Companies
Hi Wikister. Can you kindly point me to some examples of what you would consider exemplary company articles? It would be helpful to get started and you seem quite familiar with ValueWiki. Many thanks! --Twostardav 20:58, 23 February 2007 (PST)
- Twostardav, there is a list at Category:Top_10_Featured_Article_Candidates. It might need updating. It says dynamically generated. I was planning to find out more about the system for featuring articles. Maybe we should make this another general discussion topic.--Wikister 21:05, 23 February 2007 (PST)
Hey Wikister...I found this too to be useful, thanks: Start a New Article. --Twostardav 21:16, 23 February 2007 (PST)
btw-- the Category:Top_10_Featured_Article_Candidates doesn't show up on my browser-- can you see it? **
TLKM, IIT and other things
Wikister, I copied and pasted the comments you left about IIT and TLKM in my userpage to TLKM's message board, and added my little 2 cents there.
I don't know too much about English language Asian investment message boards. I mostly invest in those through ADR's or mutual funds. In places like Indonesia, blogs and message boards are not too popular yet, since the market is still dominated by institutional investors, and not much individual investor action. But if the mutual fund I invest in is heavy in a stock, I would love to know more about it. TLKM and IIT are kind of exceptions rather than norm, the fact that information about the two companies are pretty readily available. I often have hard time finding basic financial reports on foreign companies, especially in the emerging markets like Indonesia. The Jakarta stock exchange's website is kind of outdated, and many companies don't even have a website. I think once valueWiki achieve critical mass in these countries, it can have a dramatic effect on corporate transparency in these market.
About the blog, i don't know how much I will write about finance/technical stuff in there. It was meant to be a personal blog. Maybe I can start writing more in there and link to VW. I started digging deep on TLK and IIT as a follow up to a conversation I had over beer with a friend. Indosat used to be the poster boy for modern, well run, cutting edge Indonesian company, while Telkom used to be the poster boy for corrupt government run bureaucracy.
About the disclaimer thingy, I dun think I deserve credit for it. As Jon suggested, I just "plagiarized" from wikipedia's disambigation. --khartand 00:28, 28 February 2007 (PST)
Excel Upload
It's pretty dangerous to allow XLS uploads. Macros could be saved in it that could damage a user's computer. I've enabled the upload of CSV files (Comma Seperated Values). This is a common format saved by Excel. It doesn't allow all the formating and formula options of XLS, but does open in XLS as tabular data.
PALM Buyout Rumors
I updated the PALM article to reflect all the MOT and NOK takeover rumors circling this week. Everyone is expecting an announcement by Thursday. Jonathan Stokes 13:09, 20 March 2007 (PDT)
