Khartand, you might find those interesting: http://flyonwallstreet.blogspot.com/2007/02/sector-spotlight-biotech_20.html and http://thestockmasters.com/article_ZGEN_02192007.asp--Wikister 22:08, 20 February 2007 (PST)

Soros selling biotechs

Khartand, you might want to google/write-up about some Biotech names that I hear the Soros funds have liquidated/reduced their positions in.--Wikister 16:56, 22 February 2007 (PST)

  • Sold nearly 3.3 million shares of NPS Pharmaceuticals (NPSP)
  • Sold 1.5 million shares of Auxilium Pharmaceuticals (AUXL)

Just checked both NPSP and AUXL and we have them both empty so far. Will be hard for me to write anything tonite as I have some errands to do.--Wikister 17:12, 22 February 2007 (PST)

Thank you for the feedback, Khartand. I did a little bit of housekeeping at PT Telkom. I might suggest a different placement of the chart at a later time to compact the article a little bit. Let me know if you dislike the result and I'll revert or suggest something else.--Wikister 19:51, 22 February 2007 (PST)

Plagiarizing your desambiguation notice

Khartand, Good job on AEZ:CA and AVGN. I liked your desambiguation notice for AEZ:CA and decided to adapt those at RIMM and RIM:CA. Also, congrats for the return of your blog. Are you planning to put links in the blog to articles here?--Wikister 19:56, 27 February 2007 (PST)

TLK and IIT relative performance

I charted TLK and IIT using the Comparative% indicator in Bigcharts here. it is interesting how virtually all the of it is overperformance of TLK during the two TLK rallies of Jan/mid-May and Nov 2006. It seems it was TLK buying, and not IIT selling that explains the relative performance of the two.--Wikister 20:23, 27 February 2007 (PST)

Congratulations

Khartand, congratulations. The more geographical scope, the faster VW will raised on the global radar screen. Do you think you could promote these article in some Asian investment blogs and message boards?--Wikister 21:55, 27 February 2007 (PST)

Wikister, you're right on the money. IMO, your articles should be read by as many people as possible. When you guys write great articles, I occasional post links to them on Yahoo Finance or other message boards. Your work deserves to be read by as many people as possible.
Just so you know you are not toiling in obscurity, you can see how many times your pages have been viewed at the bottom of each page (although these will include your own views). You can also monitor page traffic at Special:Popularpages to see where people click on ValueWiki.
As your articles develop, they get indexed by Google and encourage new visitors into the site. For instance, if you Google search "Patrick Christopher Downs IDWD", the ValueWiki IDWD page is the #1 return. Or, if you search "Peter Vucicevich SLJB," the ValueWiki SLJB page is the #1 return. Of course, this works best for smaller stocks...for now.
Google searching "Nintendo Co Ltd ADR (NTDOY)" I find Khartand's Nintendo Message Board on the first page. The more articles we write, the more we encourage traffic and draw in potential users. Jonathan Stokes 22:30, 27 February 2007 (PST)

TLK

Khartand, looking through our analytics, I see someone from this IP: "PT. Telekomunikasi Indonesia" has viewed your PTK page. How did they find it? Well, your article is the #1 return on Google, http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=PT+TELEKOMUNIKASI+IN+TLK&btnG=Search . The #2 return? Your TLK talk page. ELY SubPage is Good!

Khartand, I see you figured out subpages! You can write whatever analysis you want there and link back to it from an article page. Nice work! Jonathan Stokes 17:12, 21 March 2007 (PDT)

MER scoop

Khartand, I like your Merrill Lynch post. I haven't had a chance to blog about your analysis yet, maybe tomorrow. Seems very relevant to ValueWiki, as you pointed out last week.

To my surprise, the ValueWiki blog had one article on the Digg mainpage today and another on the Slashdot mainpage. This made us the #1 ranked blog on Wordpress today, with 15,000 visitors. A welcome surprise.

Of this traffic, approximately 60 blog visitors clicked through to ValueWiki. That's .003%! Not an outstanding conversion rate... Nevertheless, at least the "ValueWiki" name is getting out there a bit, and we're grateful for the attention.

In the meantime, I'm interested in the BETM article. Seems to be attracting edits and readers. I may spotlight it tomorrow on the blog. Jonathan Stokes 23:51, 27 March 2007 (PDT)

On the subject of browning meats

Ok, I admit this is completely off-topic...

Have you read about the Maillard reaction? This Wikipedia entry is probably too dry and technical, but basically it's the carmelization of meat when cooked. At high temperatures, fats mix with amino acids to produce sugars. It's the reason you get a sugary sweet crust on a well-cooked duck or on the edge of a flank steak. My (limited) understanding is that top chefs artificially enhance this reaction by adding butter and directly searing the meat using a kitchen blowtorch. I wonder if this is similar to your seared steak method??

Totally off topic, I know. But the tiny bit I've read fascinates me. Jonathan Stokes 11:31, 28 March 2007 (PDT)

Yeah, my college major was in chemistry, so I heard of Maillard reaction. Yeah I think this is why crusts (on meat, etc.) are sooo good! With the steak, I just seared it on a skillet, which was preheated under very high heat. I think the more marbelized the meat is the sweeter crust you'll get. I sometimes use the technique too with chicken, searing it skin down before roasting. Thanks for giving me the idea of using a blowtorch, but I might need a special license from my fiancee to do it at home.
Hey, let me know if you're interested in setting up a cooking wiki too!  :)

Oh look I found this cool website after googling "Maillard reaction" . This is what they said about Maillard and meat flavor.
Very, very neat. Now I'm hungry for steak... Jonathan Stokes 18:33, 28 March 2007 (PDT)

TC

Khartand, thanks for that link. Yes, they raised $2.5 million in October. I would really like to see ValueWiki develop more features, but that is entirely up to Zach. I wish I could pitch in, but I can't program my way out of a wet paper bag. We have a lot of good ideas, however I think Zach is very content with his day job. Some of the features are half built, and I really can't say when or if they will go live. It's extremely frustrating for me considering the time I invested in this, but Zach is his own boss.

Ironically, our traffic and revenues are increasing month over month. Despite what Alexa says, we are getting nearly 5x the traffic we were a year ago. Still, I would like to see ValueWiki be more technologically competitive and create features to serve and foster a strong community.

Khartand, I appreciate the message and I hope you are doing well. Jonathan Stokes 01:22, 10 February 2008 (PST)

Wow, congratulations on the marriage! That's exciting news! Jonathan Stokes 17:57, 13 February 2008 (PST)
