How to build a Wiki BlogspaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaceSeptember 29
The internet already has a few practical examples of blikis as well as a few works of art. But this may be the first guide on how to build a bliki!
Here we go...
1. This writing doesn't actually exist on this page.
It really exists on a subpage at User:Jonathan Stokes/How to build a wiki blog. The text is "transcluded" here using double brackets { {User:Jonathan Stokes/How to build a wiki blog}}.
- This keeps my mainpage clean and makes it easier to transfer old articles to Archives.
2. How do you learn Wiki? You can seriously learn Wiki in one day, or just follow a cheat sheet. You can view the programming on all Wikis (including this blog) just by clicking the edit link at the top of each page.
3. How does the "View Comments" link work? At the end of this article is a blog-ish View Comments link. This directs you to a whole other subpage that transcludes this article & people's comments.
- This keeps everyone's comments on that subpage, while keeping my mainpage - and the original article - clean.
4. How does "add a comment" work? On the View Comments subpage, is a link that says "You can click here to add a comment." This nifty bit of wiki programming is just in one bracket set:
[ http://www.valuewiki.com/index.php?title=User:Jonathan_Stokes/How_to_build_a_wiki_blog_1&action=edit§ion=new You can click here to add a comment ]
5. How do I learn more? Study the formating of these three pages by viewing the edit pages (click the edit link at the top of each page). This should answer questions about formating your own wiki-blog, and hopefully inspire greater creations!
6. Where can I build my Bliki? Any Wiki you join will give you user space. I'm pretty sure wikyblog.com is free, and there are other wikiblog hosts listed here. If you're blogging about investing, you can join, ahem, ValueWiki. If you build a cool ValueWiki blog, add it to my blogroll!
7. I have a suggestion? Let me know if this Bliki guide is useful or if you have a suggestion. If you are Wiki-savvy and have an improvement, go ahead and edit this article! This is the beauty of the Bliki.
