Bid rumors
The rumormill is getting stronger on that Morgan Stanley got an acceptable bid for PALM and an agreement could be imminent. NOK or a private equity group seem to be the finalists. MOT seem to be out of the bidding by now. Figure being talked about is narrowing around $20. PALM has around $500 million in cash and good cash-flow generation. Hedge fund Galleon took a punt recently and accumulated 6% stake. Management seem to want to remain a separate concern even in case of a takeover. That would not be a problem for a preivate equity buyer, but NOK might not go along with it. A partial stake sale, with cash infusion and some new managers might also still be in the cards.
PALM has been a nice trade recently, on the long side against its peers, especially against NOK. Volume in call options today was high.--Wikister 20:22, 28 February 2007 (PST)
- On the other side, this throws a little cold water into the rumors: http://blog.openitstrategies.com/2007/02/silly-palm-acquisition-rumors.html--Wikister 09:29, 1 March 2007 (PST)
- Hehe maybe the rumor's just another grand pump 'n dump scheme played by those hedge funds like Jim Cramer described... --khartand 14:30, 22 March 2007 (PDT)
