Why is DREGX tanking so badly lately?

...down more than 1% for 3 different days over the last week+.

Dunno about tanking...

Actually comparing with MSCI Emerging market Index (EEM), nothing is unexpected from the DREGX's movement. DREGX seems to be well correlated to EEM (and even S&P). The volatility's pretty much expected from emerging market equity play. Eyeballing its holdings, DREGX is investing in some sectors that are pretty volatile, even in US, like semiconductors, commodities, and emerging low-cost airlines. In the long term I still like emerging markets play (ex China and India) as there are a lot of deeply undervalued stocks there and the weakening dollar should help these funds' $ based performance.

I've held EEM for a year and it's a rollercoaster. I love it except for its overweight in Russia, which isn't exactly known for corporate transparency. I've also been debating China vs India for 2007 and found this article especially helpful.Jonathan Stokes 23:44, 11 January 2007 (PST)
Well, lack of transparency is something that we have to live with investing in emerging markets. That's why index/fund might be the safer way to play in these markets. I have hard time finding financials for individual companies even after scouring their websites and exchanges. Hey, maybe valuewiki can address some of these problems if valuewookies post more info about these emerging market securities.
By the way nice article about China vs. India.
Khartand, that's an interesting point. Imagine if investors in India and China could begin posting their stock information to ValueWiki. In the next few months, I think ValueWiki is going to look at ways to fascilitate this. Would make investing in emerging markets much easier if this information were more accessible.
