Remember Phillip-Morris? Probably not - you're young and it was a different time, back in the days when people smoked in restaurants and bars and airports and in the room where their children were being born, shot out of their mothers' warm wombs into a room filled with smoke smoothly jetting out of the doctors' nostrils. Hey, the mom was probably taking a drag, too. Altria is the new name of Phillip-Morris, sort of how Kentucky Fried Chicken (which you're also too young to remember) became KFC. Sure, it wasn't because of those nasty rumors that they had a farm system to only produce chicken breasts and legs, big perfect pieces of chicken growing Matrix-like in a giant breast/leg factory, seeping out of test tubes while green-tinged doctors cackled; they just wanted to emphasize their other offerings. In the same way, Altria changed its name not to get away of the negative image associated with multi-billion dollar litigation of the tobacco industry but because Phillip-Morris was too singly connected to tobacco, and really, Altria is much more than just cancer sticks.
