Google, Inc. is an internet search and advertising company, offering a suite of web applications and services. Google is the number one search engine in Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, India, Italy, Mexico, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, U.K., U.S.[1] Google is the 3rd most visited site on the internet.[2] The company has $3 Billion in annual cash flow and employs 7,942 full-time employees as of June 30, 2006.[1]

Acquisitions

YouTube

Google bought YouTube on October 9, 2006 for $1.65 Billion.[3] As of April 26, 2007, YouTube is ranked the 4th most popular internet destination by Alexa.[4].

DoubleClick

On Friday April 13, Google announced its purchase of DoubleClick for $3.1 Billion. [5] Google is rumored to have beaten Microsoft and possibly Yahoo in the bidding war. [6][7] News of the buyout lifted the entire internet advertising sector, with AQNT rising 12% on Monday trading, TFSM rising 10%, and VCLK rising 2%.

Various companies have filed trademark infringement claims against Google for the display of ads in response to user queries of trademark terms. French courts have held Google liable for allowing advertisers to select certain trademarked terms as keywords. Google is appealing these decisions. Google is litigating similar issues in the U.S., France, Germany, Italy, Israel and Austria.[8]

Google has also also been served with copyright claims that features of certain products, including Google Web Search, Google News, Google Image Search, and Google Book Search, infringe on copyrights.[8]

Competition

Google considers its main competitors to be Microsoft and Yahoo.[8] In 10-Q the recent 10Q, Google noted that Microsoft is integrating web search into its Windows operating system. Google also notes that both Microsoft and Yahoo have more employees, more cash resources, longer operating histories, and more established relationships with users and customers.
