The biopharmaceutical unit researches and develops drugs for neurodegenerative and autoimmune diseases. The drug delivery units main focus is the use of nano technology to reformulate drugs to allow improved biovalability.[1]

Risks
The greatest risk would be related to it's drug Tysabri which is on the market to treat multiple sclerosis. Tysabri initially was approved in late 2004 but was withdrawn from the market in February 2005 due to 3 cases of PML, a nearly always fatal brain disease. No patients taking Tysabri as a monotherapy were diagnosed with PML. Only patients taking Tysabri with Avonex(another MS drug) or heavy immunosuppressants were diagnosed with PML. The drug was returned to the market in July 2006 after an outpouring of patient pleas and an FDA panel unaminous vote due to the efficacy of the product. Tysabri is only being prescribed as a monotherapy, but if PML shows up in the patient population it may impact product sales.
