Real Estate Investment Trusts, or REITs, are trusts or corporations that use the pooled capital of their investors to purchase and run income properties (equity REIT) and/or mortgage loans (mortgage REIT). REITs are traded like stocks, offering investors a highly liquid form of exposure to the real estate market.[1]
