The National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotations system is the largest electronic securities market in the United States. It was founded in 1971 by the National Association of Securities Dealers, and currently lists more than 3,200 securities. The NASDAQ owns 29% of the outstanding shares of the London Stock Exchange, and has made several attempts at a takeover. The most recent bid was voted down by LSE shareholders on February 10, 2007.
