BreadTalk Group operates and franchises bakeries, restaurants and foodcourts. The group's flagship business is its BreadTalk branded bakeries that the company operates directly in Singapore, People's republic of China and Thailand, and has Franchise operations in Indonesia, Philipines, Malaysia, China, Taiwan, and the Middle East. The company also operates Din Tai Fung restaurants (under franchise from Din Tai Fung Taiwan), and FoodRepublic brand of Food Courts in Singapore.

Company Analysis

BreadTalk group operates and franchises bakeries, restaurants and food courts throughout Southeast Asia (mainly SIngapore), China and Middle East. The group's flagship segment is its BreadTalk branded bakeries. It also operates Food Courts in Singapore, HongKong and Beijing, China and Din Tai Fung branded restaurants in Singapore (under franchise from Din Tai Fung Group, Taiwan). [1]

BreadTalk Bakeries

The company directly owns and operates 24 bakery outlets in Singapore, 19 in China and one in Thailand under its flagship BreadTalk brand (as of June 30, 2006). In the first six month of 2006, this segment booked S$ 25.3 million or about 45% of the group's total revenue.[1]

Franchise Operations

The company also franchised its Breadtalk brand to bakery operators throughout Southeast Asia (Indonesia, Malaysia and Philippines), Middle East, India and China. This segment contributed S$ 3.4 million revenue or about 6 % of the company's total revenue for the first half of 2006.[1]

Food Courts

The Group's second largest revenue contributor, food courts, contributed revenue growth in dollar S$17.5 million in the first half of 2006. Increase was spurred by strong maiden 1H contributions by the new food courts in Singapore, Hong Kong and Beijing launched in October 2005, December 2005 and April 2006 respectively. The Group now owns 15 food courts through Topwin Investment Holding – 10 in Shanghai, 2 in Beijing, 1 in Tianjin, 1 in Hong Kong and 1 in Singapore. Going forward, the Group will rebrand all its food courts under Food Republic food atrium brand name.[1]

Restaurants

Restaurant sales was S$9.6 million in 1H06 due to the expansion of the world-renowned Din Tai Fung restaurant network. As at 30 June 2006, the Group operates four Din Tai Fung restaurants in Singapore – Paragon, Junction 8, Tampines Mall and Wisma Atria.[1]
