Aldurazyme

Aldurazyme® (laronidase)is a polymorphic variant of the human enzyme deficient in MPS I, alpha-L-iduronidase. The drug has been approved as a treatment option for patients with Hurler and Hurler-Scheie forms of Mucopolysaccharidosis I (MPS I) and for patients with the Scheie form who have moderate to severe symptoms.

  • The drug is manufactured by Biomarin and marketted by Genzyme (GENZ) with 50-50 sharing of net income. In full year 2005 and 3 quarters of 2006 the drug's revenue was $76.6 million and $69.9 million respectively. [1]
  • It was approved Nov 1, 2007 in Japan for exclusive treatment of MPS I in Japan.

Naglazyme

NAGLAZYME (galsulfase) is a normal variant form of the polymorphic human enzyme, N–acetylgalactosamine 4-sulfatase that is produced by recombinant DNA technology in a Chinese hamster ovary cell line. It is approved to treat Mucopolysaccharidosis VI (MPS VI).

BioMarin has rights for US, Serono holds the rights outside US.

  • Small molecule ynthetic form of 6R-BH4 (tetrahydrobiopterin),
  • In March 2006 announced that endpoints were met and in January 2007, more positive data in trials involving children were announced and the company said the drug is on schedule to get approved in 2Q 2007. [2]
